Sonder opens new centre in Kadina

Individuals living in the Copper Coast region on the Yorke Peninsula now have better access to health and wellbeing services with the opening of a new Sonder centre in Kadina.

The Sonder Kadina centre, located on Narungga Country at 44 Graves St provides a safe and welcoming place for people to access support for mental health, chronic disease management and developing healthier lifestyle habits. All services delivered at the centre are free of charge and funded by Country SA PHN.

Country SA PHN Chief Executive Officer, Mark Hartigan said the organisation is proud to fund Sonder to offer health and wellbeing programs to the community that help to bridge the gap in health inequality.

“The Sonder Kadina centre provides a bricks-and-mortar location for people of the Copper Coast to attend to learn more about the outstanding support services Sonder offers,” he said.

The new centre is staffed by a highly-skilled, multi-disciplinary team of health professionals including mental health clinicians, care coordinators, outreach workers, dietitians and exercise physiologists.

The team work together to deliver individualised services that are focused on amplifying the strengths of individuals and developing self-management skills.

Sonder Kadina has been operating since the start of the year and welcomed community members and local service providers to visit the centre, meet the team and take a tour of the new facility at an official opening event on Tuesday 21 March. A traditional smoking ceremony was conducted at the event by local Narungga & Ngadjuri Elder, Ian Harradine using smoldering native plants to cleanse the area of bad energy.

Sonder Chief Executive Officer, Sageran Naidoo said the organisation is excited to have a permanent home on the Yorke Peninsula.

“The opening of our new centre at Kadina will ensure that community members living in the Copper Coast region will be able to access the support they need to address their health and wellbeing needs.”

“The space has been thoughtfully designed and offers a comfortable waiting room, private consult rooms, and a calming environment where individuals and their families can feel safe, respected and supported,” he said.

The services provided at the centre include:

  • Clinical Care & Coordination – Therapeutic care and support for people experiencing severe and complex mental illness.
  • Integrated Primary Care – Support for people living with (or at risk of developing) chronic health conditions to access care coordination and a range of free allied health services including physiotherapy, diabetes education, exercise physiology, and more.
