Sonder selected as service provider for Northern Adelaide Head to Health
Sonder is proud to announce its appointment as the commissioned service provider for South Australia’s new Head to Health centre, located in Adelaide’s northern suburbs.
This new service, commissioned by Adelaide Primary Health Network, will open in Elizabeth in April 2024 and aims to improve mental health outcomes for community members in Adelaide’s northern suburbs.
Head to Health services are federally funded adult mental health centres, designed to provide clinical and peer support for people experiencing distress, crisis or mental health conditions that are too complex for many existing primary care services, in a warm and welcoming environment.
Northern Adelaide Head to Health will be among the first in a network of sites that will open across the state, funded as part of the bilateral agreement between the Commonwealth and South Australia governments to invest more than $127.8 million into mental health and suicide prevention services over the next five years.
Services delivered at the new centre will be tailored to the needs of the local community, designed in collaboration with people with a lived experience of recovery, carers and family, Aboriginal people, mental health professionals, support services and first responders.
Staffed by a combination of clinicians, nurses, occupational therapists, and peer practitioners with lived experience of mental health challenges, the new centre will provide:
- Immediate mental health support for people in distress.
- Short-and-medium-term mental health and wellbeing support.
- Service navigation and helpful, relevant information.
- Connection and referral for ongoing support.
The new centre aims to ease the burden on the public hospital system and provide more accessible services to those needing mental health support, their carers, and families.
