Sonder’s headspace centres partner with Carers SA

Sonder is pleased to announce the finalisation of a Memorandum of Understanding between Sonder, the lead agency for headspace Adelaide, Edinburgh North, Onkaparinga and Marion, and Carers SA aimed at enhancing support for young carers and those caring for young people.

This collaboration reflects a shared commitment to address the unique challenges faced by carers, ensuring they receive the necessary resources and mental health support within headspace centres.

Young carers in particular often juggle multiple responsibilities, caring for family members or friends while managing their own education and personal lives.

This partnership seeks to create a safe and inclusive environment within our headspace centres where carers can access tailored support services.

“Caring for someone can be incredibly rewarding, but it can also be overwhelming,” said Steven Wright, Executive Manager, Children, Family and Youth Services at Sonder.

“We recognise the vital role that carers play and are committed to providing them with the support they need to maintain their own wellbeing. Through this collaboration, we aim to empower carers with resources, supports, and community connections.”

Carers SA has over 30 years of extensive experience in supporting carers throughout South Australia and is the  Carer Gateway provider in South Australia.  Their dedicated team will work alongside headspace to provide supports for carers, including peer support groups, one-on-one coaching, informational sessions and other tailored support options. These initiatives will provide carers with the opportunity to share their experiences, gain insights, learn coping strategies and connect with other carers.

“Working with headspace is an exciting opportunity for Carers SA,” said David Militz, CEO.

“Together, we can ensure that carers feel seen, heard, and supported. This partnership will enable us to provide the much-needed resources and supports for young carers and carers providing support for young people, to build capacity and empower carers to thrive, both in their caring roles and in their personal lives.”
