Walk-in mental health service extends operating hours
Available at Sonder’s Edinburgh North Centre on Peachey Road, the service provides individuals with free, on-the-spot treatment, advice and support from trained mental health professionals, without the need for a formal referral.
Sonder CEO, Sageran Naidoo explains “The past year has been challenging for all South Australians with the pandemic leading to many individuals seeking support for their mental health for the first time. Ensuring support is easily accessible is key.”
“Our Walk-in Service is designed for people for people who want more support than a phone support line can offer, but who do not require admission to hospital – aiming to bridge the gap between these two types of mental health support.”
The Walk-in Service was previously available on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Mondays from 5 pm to 10 pm. In response to community need and feedback, as of Monday 6 September, the service will be available from 5 pm to 9 pm, Monday to Friday and will no longer be available on Saturday evenings.
At the Walk-in Service, individuals have the opportunity to speak to someone quickly and confidentially about the issues that are challenging them.
Sonder’s team are also able to process referrals to other services and provide take-home strategies for dealing with any short-term distress or situational crisis which may occur in future.
Also on hand to provide support is a Peer Support Worker with lived experience of mental illness. Peer Support Workers are uniquely positioned to understand what the individual is going through and can provide empathetic support as well as helpful insights and strategies.
Sonder’s Walk-In After-Hours Service is funded by Adelaide Primary Health Network and delivered from 2 Peachey Rd, Edinburgh North.
