Whether you’re feeling overwhelmed, distressed, or simply need someone to talk to, we’re here to listen.

Our space is designed to feel welcoming, calm, and non-clinical. You’ll find a non-judgemental environment where you can feel heard, supported, and connected.

Staff at Safe Haven have their own personal lived experiences of mental health challenges and can offer an understanding ear about whatever is troubling you.

What to expect

Every visit to Safe Haven is different. It’s about what you need. When you arrive, a Peer Practitioner will greet you. You’ll have the option to:

  • Talk one-on-one with a Peer Practitioner

If you’d like to talk, a Peer Practitioner will take the time to listen, without judgement or pressure. You can share what’s been happening, explore what might help, or simply have someone to talk to who understands.

  • Spend quiet time in a safe, calm environment

Sometimes, you might just need space to rest, breathe, or collect your thoughts. Safe Haven offers a peaceful environment where you can take time for yourself.

  • Join in activities

If you’re looking for gentle distraction or a bit of connection, you’re welcome to join in board games or creative activities. They can help calm your mind and provide a sense of comfort and community.

  • Learn about other support services available

If you want to explore more ongoing support, Peer Practitioners can share information about local services and programs that might be helpful.

About Peer Practitioners

At Safe Haven, you’ll be supported by Peer Practitioners – people with their own lived experience of mental health challenges. They truly understand what it’s like to go through life’s ups and downs. They offer a listening ear with no shame or judgement.

  • Listen to your story

Peer Practitioners are here to listen – really listen – to whatever you’re going through. You can talk openly in a safe, non-judgemental space where your experiences are respected and understood.

  • Support you through tough times

Whether you’re feeling overwhelmed, lonely, or unsure where to turn, Peer Practitioners will walk alongside you, offering emotional support and understanding during challenging moments.

  • Share coping strategies

Drawing on their own lived experiences, Peer Practitioners can share practical tools and strategies that have helped them manage life’s ups and downs – so you can find what works best for you.

  • Connect you with other services if you need

If you’d like extra support, Peer Practitioners can help you explore and connect with other local services or resources that match your needs – at your pace, and only if you choose.

About Safe Haven

Safe Havens have been established across Australia to provide non-clinical, welcoming spaces where people experiencing distress can access support, as an alternative to visiting a hospital emergency department.

Sonder’s Safe Haven in Salisbury is South Australia’s first Safe Haven. The space and service model has been designed in partnership with people who have been through tough times themselves and understand what does and doesn’t work.

Sonder’s Safe Haven is guest-led, meaning that each guest is supported to choose supports based on their own preferences and recovery needs.
