Medicare Mental Health Kids Hubs

Free, early mental health and wellbeing support for children aged up to 12 years old and their families.

Book or refer

Medicare Mental Health Kids Hubs are free, welcoming services providing early-intervention mental health and wellbeing support for children aged up to 12 years old, along with support for their families, carers, and kin.

Medicare Mental Health Kids Hubs are designed to be calm, child-friendly spaces where families can talk openly about their child’s development, emotions, behaviour, or wellbeing.

Whether your child is experiencing big emotions, behavioural challenges, developmental concerns, or family stress, our team is here to listen, support, and help you understand next steps.

Support is free, confidential, and tailored to the needs of each child and family.

You don’t need a diagnosis, referral, Mental Health Treatment Plan, or appointment to access the service.

What we offer

Medicare Mental Health Kids Hubs offer:

  • Initial assessments to understand the child’s needs.
  • Care planning and practical advice.
  • Counselling and therapy (up to 10 sessions).
  • Allied health services.
  • Group activities.
  • Support to connect with other health, community, and education services.

Our Kids Hubs teams include psychologists, peer practitioners with lived experience, family, infant and perinatal social workers, speech pathologists, occupational therapists, mental health nurses, social and emotional wellbeing workers, behaviour support practitioners, and cultural liaison workers. They combine lived experience, community knowledge, and cultural expertise to create spaces where families feel respected, understood, and safe.

What to expect

  • Support when you need it

Whether you’re unsure what’s typical for your child’s age or navigating new challenges, our team listens with empathy and care. You’re welcome to return whenever you need support.

  • Support for families, carers and kin

We work alongside parents, carers, kin and extended family to build confidence, understanding, and practical strategies.

  • Culturally safe and inclusive care

Support is available for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families and for culturally and linguistically diverse communities, with interpreters available to support families who need language assistance.

  • Early support that makes a difference

Early intervention can support emotional regulation, behaviour, social skills, and overall wellbeing.
