Sonder welcomes two new Board Directors

Sonder is pleased to announce the appointment of two new members to its Board of Directors – Sean Bates and Dr Matthew Bourke – who bring diverse expertise in digital strategy, cybersecurity, and cultural safety.

Sean Bates

Sean joins the Sonder Board with extensive experience advising and leading digital strategy, architecture, cybersecurity, and change management across a broad range of sectors – including health, government, education, retail, energy, and finance.

An advocate for the responsible integration of technology into service delivery, Sean is particularly interested in the ethical interface between artificial intelligence and the health and community services sector, and how innovation can improve outcomes for clients and communities.

A strong believer in lifelong learning, Sean holds an MBA, a Graduate Diploma in Project Management, and a Master of Cybersecurity. He is a member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and currently serves as a Non-Executive Director for the Australian Institute of Conveyancers (SA) and as a Branch Executive Committee Member for the Australian Computer Society.

Dr Matthew Bourke

Dr Matthew Bourke is a proud Gamilaraay man and an experienced General Practitioner with a diverse clinical background across Aboriginal health, mental health, anaesthetics, and lifestyle disease prevention.

He currently serves as a Senior Medical Consultant at the Aboriginal Family Clinic within the Southern Adelaide Local Health Network, a GP Anaesthetist at Mt Barker Hospital, and a General Practitioner at Littlehampton Medical Centre.

Since graduating from the University of Adelaide in 1999, Matthew has built a career dedicated to improving healthcare access and quality, particularly for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. His leadership and clinical experience span over two decades across rural, regional, and metropolitan settings. He holds particular expertise in Aboriginal health, adult and elderly psychiatry, and drug and alcohol medicine.
