With a strong focus on keeping active, connecting to culture, building resilience and looking after your wellbeing, you’ll learn self-defence in a supportive group environment with experienced Jiu Jitsu trainers.
Jiu Jitsu Academy is a 10-week program.

Shane Cook is a proud Wulli Wulli man with many family connections throughout Queensland and Adelaide. He is a fulltime practicing artist, mentor and works in community development, facilitating programs and workshops.
Shane has been involved in Sonder’s Jiu Jitsu Academy since 2021, to support First Nations people and their families to improve their wellbeing through movement, cultural connection, and community networking.
Shane started his Jiu Jitsu journey 8 years ago.
“My life seems to be much more fulfilling when I’m consistently training in the gym and take care of my physical health. Training plays a huge part in my self care and mental health care plan. The benefits of training and how I feel afterward is something I hope many more people get to experience throughout their lives.”
Brazilian jiu jitsu is a grappling, self-defence martial art that takes place mostly on the ground. It focuses on technique, leverage and timing over strength.
