In December last year, Sonder was proud to have been announced as the preferred provider for the headspace Adelaide and the headspace Youth Early Psychosis Program (hYEPP) by the Adelaide PHN.
headspace centres provide early intervention, mental health and general health services to young people aged 12 to 25.
Sonder CEO, Sageran Naidoo said the news was “warmly welcomed”.
“We are excited about this new opportunity to help a new population of young people,” Naidoo says.
Contract negotiations, including a robust transition process have been finalised and Sonder will operate the headspace Adelaide centre and hYEPP service from Monday 1 July.
Sonder has operated the headspace Edinburgh North centre for the northern Adelaide region for in excess of ten years and later assumed the role of lead agency for headspace Onkaparinga in Adelaide’s south in 2018.
“Over the past 25 years of operation, we have earned a solid reputation for the provision of high quality, evidence-based psychological therapy services that are relevant to the complex needs of young people in the local communities in which we operate”, explains Naidoo.
headspace centres act as a one-stop-shop for young people who need help with mental health, physical health, sexual health, alcohol and other drugs or work and study support.
In addition to the headspace core services, headspace Adelaide also offers a unique early psychosis program, supporting young people experiencing, or at risk of developing psychosis.
How to access the service
Referral to headspace Adelaide primary service can be received from GPs and other primary health care providers. Alternatively, young people can self-refer or be referred through a school or community worker. Families, carers or friends can also refer on behalf of the young person, however these referrals must take place with the person’s consent. To access the referral form, visit headspace.org.au/adelaide
The hYEPP continues to provide a full service to its current clients but has stopped accepting new referrals to its program temporarily due to staffing shortages. For further information or if you have any concerns please contact headspace Adelaide on 1800 063 267. It is expected that hYEPP will resume accepting referrals in the near future and Sonder will communicate this through the headspace Adelaide website when this occurs.
